Be Inspired | Do Good:
An Interview with Maureen McNamara Best, Executive Director at Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP):
Over the past twelve years, Maureen McNamara Best has worked in all aspects of the food system – migrant farm workers in North Carolina and Colorado. Food safety. Taught high school agriculture. And, was even a field laborer on a small farm.
When you hear her story and learn more about her, you’ll see that it was a natural fit for Maureen to become the Executive Director of Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP). She and her cohort Sam Lev, are doing amazing things for our community. Get involved! Learn more, below!
LEAP helps the members of our community find the best food providers in the Roanoke and Southwest Virginia region. Whether your goal is to buy from nearby family produce and meat farmers, learn about government programs to help you eat healthier on a budget or you’re looking for help starting your entrepreneurial venture in our professional kitchen, LEAP has the answers.
They want to partner with you to LEAP back to the future and (re-)connect community producers to local consumers.
FILL UP ON FARM-FRESH, LOCAL, YUMMINESS!
LEAP features Community Markets at Grandin Village and the West End, the LEAP Mobile Market and has partner markets at Lick Run Urban Farm and Catawba Valley Farmers Market. When you visit the markets you’ll get to meet the people who grew or raised your meal and taste the difference that “picked-today” or “raised with care” makes.
